What a day.

First thing this morning the Motor on my bandsaw packed up

Then I glued up some purfling, but somehow wasn't concentrating rather than gluing up with my normal waterproof glue, I used titebond, arrrgh.

Then this afternoon I was slotting a fingerboard, I use a japaneese saw with no depth stop that goes through ebony like butter (a job I've been meaning to get round to doing is fit a depth stop and I did last thing after this event, shutting the stable door after the horse ) anyway I managed to saw the board clean through at the 15th fret,

Never mind could be worse, I used my new go bar deckfor the first time with the new fiberglass rods, and I'm never going back to hardwood dowels.

Fortunately the fingerboard was only an ebony one.

Despite the fact my saw only has a return to base warranty, the dealer who sold it to me, got his engineer to remove the motor from one they had in stock and his engineer drove 15 miles to my shop and fitted it for me , now they are definately getting my business again.

So all is well that ends well and tomorrow is another day

I hear ya!! I just got had a share of a bad day too....wrapped some sides in the wrong type of paper and they turned green!

We've all had those days...I had the motor to my edge sander overheat and it melted the chord. I finally rewired the whole thing with all new wire and ran it 220 instead of 110. Works better.

That's great that they came and swapped out the motor...that's Great Service.

The rods are superb they make such a difference on getting everything in place before the hide glue goes.

I thought that was just outstanding service, when I bought the saw I has a slightly cheaper quote from a national company, but decided to buy from my local dealer as he got the price as close as he could, and they have there own engineer, who is there all the time.

I was very glad I did today, all I said was I needed the saw ASAP, so if they could sort it as quick as possible and I was dreading having to diassemble it to get it over to them, and he did that for me, no chrage nothing, and its not like I am a huge customer.

Russell, hope things get better!

It has been raining down here bucket fulls and I recently installed a Dehumidifier that was doing great, I guess during a thunderstorm the power went haywire and tripped the breaker. My shop is out away from my home and with it raining did not go out for a day or two. Went out this morning, it finnally slacked off and my RH was 84% in my shop. Everything looked OK, and I got things running again and as of this afternoon was back down to around 50%. That will teach me to not check on things daily!

Sounds like you ended up in pretty good shape, Russell. Tough breaks, but it sounds like a real winner with the motor.

Just took a "boat" out of the mold, and noticed that the back's lower bout center seam is 1/2" off...so, I get to dis-assemble tomorrow and start again!

Yeouch. Now I'm even more paranoid about using the saw (we're both using the big 'ol Axminster one, right) without paying attention. If/when you work out a usable depth stop system, do let me know.

And fibreglass go-bars are great, huh?

Yes Mattia we are using the same saw, I will take a picture of how I have adapted the saw in a bit MAttia, I'll go take a picture.

I really like the fiberglass rods so much easier and accurate I was using ash before, Colin told me about a kite supplier in Brighton called Airborn Kites, they sell 5mm rod in a 2.5m length for ?2-00 and I got them to cut them up into 4 equal lengths I think the cutting charge was 50p per length, the little caps to go on the ends are 10p each. Here is a few pics of the mod I made to the saw, nothing that elaborate just drilled the blade in three place, bolted through some PTFE material to each side, and ground everything off flush.

When I drilled the blade I clamped it between two board and drilled through the top one, to stop the blade distorting, when very slow as the blade is tough to drill put through a 3mm hole then enlarge it a mm at a time.

I tried an arngement that clamped on the top to avoid having to drill the blade, but it kept lipping, so whent with the drilled version.

I was afraid that post was a little sensational.
What happened was--it was a prison visitation day. The day I take to visit a friend who is incarcerated. But everytime I go, I am sobered immensely. It always has the effect on me of making all my little problems seem so trivial.
(And I am not trying to trivialize your bad day, Russ!) I know it helps to vent among friends...it always helps me. And sometimes it helps to see those who are in a real stew. Tuesday was like that for me.

Anyway, it sounds like your day did indeed end well, Russ. Good news. Now on my end, I got a mood-lifter as well: a package from Shane Neifer arrived! Hooo-ahh!

I'm having a bit of an annoying day today; last week I did a major tidy, sorting through all the stuff on my desk, all my guitar parts (in part because I'd managed to lose 3 bridges I'd recently recieved...they'd snuck under the bed), so today, I figured I'd test-fit the strat and tele necks again, do a bit of fine tuning, that sort of thing, and I've discovered that I've managed to entirely dissapear the Tele control plate. Now, this is a 10 buck bit of chromed metal, but dammit, it's still annoying. I've double-checked everywhere it could be, and unless it's hiding inside a DVD case, I fear I may have thrown it out by mistake or something.

I could've sworn I put it the Big Organizer Box Of Guitar Parts, but no. That would've made *sense*. Upshot: I've ordered another, plus a gold stop tailpiece for an upcoming project from Rockinger.
